Mottle Flared Vessel

This vessel seems to have found its own place in the landscape. 

Rising from a trimmed foot, its broad rim opens outward with a touch of lightness. The more open the surrounding space, the stronger its presence becomes.

Layers of colour gather across the surface in ash grey, warm earth and charcoal. Their shifting layers remind us of traces of smoke, as though the vessel has been shaped gradually by nature itself. 

Part of Feng Zheyuan’s Mottle Series, these vessels investigate the expressive potential of layered mineral slips. Earth pigments, gesture and firing create variegated surfaces that resist uniformity, giving each piece an enduring sense of depth and geological time.
